Frederick Nattrass Primary Academy is a Rights Respecting School.
We were awarded Level 1 in June 2016
We are currently working towards achieving the level 2 RRSA
(Rights Respecting School Award)
The award centres around making sure that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is known and understood by all children and that children fully understand their own responsibilities in making sure that other people's rights are upheld.
AtFrederick Nattrass children learn about rights through the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We believe that by understanding their own rights children learn to appreciate and uphold the rights of others. Children are taught that although Rights can never be taken away, they are taught that with a right comes a responsibility.
Each class has developed their own class charter which underlines our commitment to upholding these rights. Miss Carter leads our Rights Action Group which includes school staff, parents and children to plan our future work in this area. Work is also done by our Junior Leadership Team.
Article 29 of the UNCRC underlines our vision as a school:
Education must develop every child's personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child's respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.
At Frederick Nattrass all children and adults work together to recognise and act upon the rights of the child with respect to the school, the local community and the wider world.
